Pollution Solution: Occupy Central vastly improves air quality in Hong Kong… not including tear gas

Whether you’re for it or against it, one thing can’t be denied – Occupy Central has done wonders for Hong Kong’s air quality. Yippee! That’s reason enough to keep it going, surely.

After finding ourselves choking last week with 10/10 ratings for bad air quality almost across the board and the the Environmental Protection Agency issuing warnings of a “serious” threat to health, we’re now breathing a little easier with 3/10 and 4/10 readings of “low” or “moderate”.

Pollution index Hong Kong

Since Sunday when the pro-democracy protestors first started filling up the streets in Hong Kong’s central financial district, the nitrogen dioxide level at the Causeway Bay monitoring station more than halved from 125 micrograms per cubic metre of air to 60 micrograms.

You may quibble with the politics, but you can’t deny the maths!
